October 2024 – long-weekend European City Breaks

Iceland

When:

26-30 October 2024

Cost:

£390 (covers accommodation, materials, training and a goodbye meal) plus travel

What you’ll be doing:

Often described as the most godless nation in Europe, only about 0.03% of the Icelandic population consider themselves to have a relationship with Jesus, which in Iceland’s population adds up to around 200 people. Because of the dark spiritual climate and the growing belief that Christianity is a relic of the past, consistent, relevant evangelism and discipleship is needed. That requires an investment of time. Join with other European students and experienced Agapé staff members to continue to build relationships with the students we know, seek to find more Christian students to be involved in movement building and discover Jesus with Icelandic students.

Western & Eastern Europe

When:

October 2024

Cost:

£300 (covers accommodation, materials, training and a goodbye meal) plus travel

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll spend a long-weekend getting to experience the rich culture and history of a university city in Europe. At the same time, you’ll get opportunities to meet and encourage local Christian students who are just like you – learning what it means to be followers of Jesus on their university campus. You’ll get to serve side-by-side with these local Christian students, helping them to initiate spiritual conversations with new students on their campus as they seek to build a movement of students who are discovering Jesus, growing with Jesus and going like Jesus.

You’ll learn practical skills for talking about your faith that you can bring home with you and put into practice on your own campus.

The destination (or possibly destinations!) will be announced in the late summer.

November 2024 – Agapé UK Student Summit

April 2025 – 9-day humanitarian aid project

When:

7-16 April 2025

Cost:

£675 (excluding flights)

What you’ll be doing:

Cluj-Napoca is a city in northwestern Romania.  It is the capital of the historical region Transylvania and is one of the most visited cities in Romania.  Also home to a community of Roma people, living in one of the city’s rubbish dump in the outskirts of this city.

Since 2015, we have been sending teams to serve in the local Roma community on the outskirts of Cluj-Napoca. Over the years a strong partnership has been built with a local faith-based organisation working to shine a light and bring hope for the children and young people living there.

In April 2025, GAiN UK will once again be returning to Romania to help support the long term work of our partner in providing hope and education to the future generation of gypsy children living by the rubbish dump.  In a very practical way we will help with the construction of facilities for the children and teens as well as running a programme of activities to bring joy and fun to their lives.

Will you join us in helping reveal hope and restore life to this community?

Do you have a friend, who’s not yet a Christian, who’s socially conscious? Are they longing to make a difference to the world? Why not invite them to join you on the GAiN UK Romania Project? As well as making a significant differences to a community in need, this project also often provides great opportunities to bond with your teammates. It’s a great environment in which to process what’s important in the world, what’s motivating us to want to make a difference and initiate spiritual conversations with our other team members.

Summer 2025 – 2- to 3-week Global Project

When:

June 2025

Cost:

£2,000 (all inclusive, funded by donations)

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll spend 2 to 3 weeks in the beautiful West African country of Sierra Leone, exploring its rich and fascinating cultural ties to the UK, and the UK Church, and experiencing both the uplifting and tragic sides of the UK’s past involvements in West Africa.

It’ll be a fantastic opportunity for personal spiritual growth at the same time as meeting, encouraging and helping train Sierra Leonean Christian students as the team helps to lead the students through the Living & Telling discipleship and evangelism training course that helps us to live and tell our faith as a natural part of our everyday lives. You’ll also get to work alongside the local Sierra Leonean students in initiating spiritual conversations with new students on their campus – as well as with villagers in Sierra Leone’s provinces whilst delivering much needed aid – as they seek to build spiritual movements of Christians who are discovering Jesus, growing with Jesus and going like Jesus.

You’ll learn practical skills for talking about your faith that you can bring home with you and put into practice on your own campus. You’ll also come back inspired and revitalised as you experience, first-hand, how open Sierra Leoneans are to follow Jesus and how God is actively growing the Church in Sierra Leone.

GAiN UK Benin LIFE Trip

When:

17-27 October 2025

Cost:

£2,600 (approx; all inclusive, funded by donations)

What you’ll be doing:

Water is essential to life. It’s a basic human necessity.  Yet, almost 1 in 8 people still don’t have access to safe water. We can do something to help break this cycle of brokenness and help improve the lives of these people.

Since 2002, GAiN has been providing rural villages with deep capped wells, ensuring fresh, clean water for their people.  So far, together with generous partners from all over the world, we have provided 3,083 deep capped water wells and have given over 3,083,000 people access to safe water.

In 2023, we sent our first Benin LIFE trip to the rural villages in Benin for 10 days and they were involved in helping our partner set up deep capped wells at different stages. We will be sending another team in 2025 to help people in rural villages have access to safe drinking water. Will you join us in revealing hope and restoring life in Benin?

Imagine an adventure that’ll forever change you, through which you can experience God working in you and through you…

Did you know, the number of people becoming Christians is growing rapidly around the world? Sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, but God’s kingdom really is growing!

Agapé UK offers exciting opportunities to get an experience of these places where the Church is growing fast and people are desperate to know God. But we also offer opportunities to go to those places where the Church is small and few people have thought about how Jesus could be good news for them. If we’re willing to go, wherever we go, there are people who are waiting to hear the good news about Jesus. And God can use us.

This is what Agapé UK’s Global Projects are all about. They’re unique adventures in discovering Jesus and helping others to find out more about Him, too. In 2024-25, will you consider going global?

Applying for an Agapé UK Global Project

So you’re interested in going on a Global Project next year? That’s great! We’re really pleased that you’re thinking about joining us!

Before you apply though, if possible, we recommend speaking with an Agapé UK staff member or a trusted Christian friend about it. Praying is essential, too!

Here’s how it works to apply to go on an Agapé UK Global Project:

  1. Click the correct link above to go to the page for the Global Project to which you wish to apply. You’ll find a link to the online Application Form at the bottom of that page. Fill it out, submit it, and then immediately e-mail a scanned copy of the photo page of your passport to: globalprojects@agape.org.uk.
  2. Whichever Global Project you’re applying for, we require at least one reference from you, preferably from an Agapé UK staff member, or if that’s not possible, from a church leader. E-mail the link to the Reference Form to your referee, or send them the link to the relevant Global Project page so that they can click through to the link themselves.
  3. Once we receive your Application Form and your Reference Form, we’ll evaluate your application and let you know if you’ve been accepted via e-mail.
  4. If your application is accepted, you’ll then be sent an e-mail containing further information about the Global Project and about your next steps. We encourage our Global Project participants to develop a team of partners – friends, family and churches – who partner with you as you go by both praying for you and giving financially towards the costs of the Global Project. We’ll also send you more information and advice about this process with your Acceptance Pack, but you can also find out more information about raising your finances, by following this link.

Please pay particular attention to the various Global Project deadlines. Don’t miss out! (Please check the GAiN UK website for the application deadline for any GAiN UK projects.)

Join us as we head to Sierra Leone for two weeks to spend time working alongside local Agapé staff and students to take the good news about Jesus to people who will never have heard it before. We’ll have opportunities to experience a rich new culture, build new friendships and make a real difference in the lives of Sierra Leoneans!

Application deadline:

3 February 2025

What can I expect?

Although Iceland has a long Christian heritage, stretching back a thousand years, today it’s one of the least evangelised countries in Western Europe. By some estimates, there are as few as 200 Bible-believing followers of Jesus in the entire country. (The population is just under 400,000.)

You’ll spend time in Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital, working alongside your team to help launch a new Christian student movement by starting conversations about faith with students on the university campus and seeking out Christian students at local churches.

Cost:

As the team will be coming from all across Europe, you’ll need to arrange your own flights to Norway. (Click here to find out more about how you can invite others to help you raise the funds for your Global Project.)

Application deadline:

3 February 2025

What can I expect?

Norway has a long Christian heritage, stretching back over a thousand years, and this heritage has left a huge mark on the culture today.

Equality, justice, caring for the poor… these are values that Norwegian society is well known for and that they’ve taken from their Christian heritage. But Norwegian people are increasingly taking the values they received from Jesus and ditching Jesus Himself. But whilst their country is affluent and ranks highly in wealth equality indexes, people are feeling adrift and without purpose as a result of being cut off from the loving source of the values they hold so strongly.

Norway is one of the only countries in Europe without an Agapé student movement. You’ll spend time in Oslo, Norway’s capital, working alongside your team to help launch a new Agapé movement by starting conversations about faith with students on the university campus and seeking out Christian students at local churches.

This project is being organised by Agape Europe and is for university students or recent graduates. The team will be made up of Agapé staff and students from across Europe. For more information about this project, please contact us at: globalprojects@agape.org.uk.
